Ilegué - Johanny Navarro
“Ilegué” is a musical piece that pays homage to the exquisite beauty of the flowers typical of Puerto Rico. It evokes an intimate connection between nature and Puerto Rican culture.
The work for clarient and alto saxophone is structured in the form of the Danza Puertorriqueña, a genre that originated at the end of the 19th century and is know as the expression and symbol of Puerto Rican musicality.
“Ilegué” begins with a paseo in which the colors and timbres of both instruments are born from the same idea, from the same note. Theme A, inspired by the Flor de Maga, brings the traditional sound of Danza Puertorriqueña. Theme B, light and delicate, reflects the shape and tone of the Frijol de Cimarrón flower. In Theme C, contrasting textures and modalities emulate the strength and vibrant color of the Carribbean, inspired by the Flor de Fuego. Following the traditional structure of the Danza Puertorriqueña, “Ilegué” concludes with a recapitulation of Theme A and a coda that captures the vibrant palette of colors and aromas of Puerto Rican flowers.
In “Ilegué,” melodies and rhythms of Puerto Rican and Caribbean tropical harmony converge. This offering is a profound act of respect and admiration of nature’s indescribable beauty and celebrates the diversity and exuberance of Puerto Rican flowers.
