SWOSU Saxophone Studio

About the studio:

The saxophone studio at Southwestern Oklahoma State University is comprised of students studying music education, music performance, music business, music therapy, and more. Students receive weekly saxophone lessons from Dr. Rife, perform in various saxophone chamber ensembles, attend a weekly studio class, and attend recitals and masterclasses by today’s leading teachers and performers.

Undergraduate:

The music department offers competitive scholarships to talented musicians. Fill out the Undergraduate Scholarship Audition Form for consideration!

Graduate:

Graduate Teaching Assistantships are often available and provide free tuition along with a yearly stipend for master’s students. Contact Dr. Rife at gregory.rife@swosu.edu for more information.

  • Undergraduate:

    • Two contrasting selections: one lyrical and one technical. OR a single piece that demonstrates lyrical and technical playing. Excerpts from etudes and solos used for All-State auditions or District Solo Contests can be used.

    • Major scales

    Graduate:

    • Two selections that demonstrate lyrical and technical playing. Music from a senior recital can be used.

    • Major and minor scales.
